I
n 1890, Henry Straub, Sr immigrated to Eureka, taking a job as a cabinet maker in a furnitue store. He eventually purchased the business, naming it Frey and Straub Furniture Factory. The Spanish Flu epidemic that struck in 1918 caused Mr. Straub to follow a slightly different calling. He made the caskets and his wife, Albina, lined the inside with fabric. In the 1930's, their son, Werner, received his funeral directors license. Werner's brother, Ted, and his son, Henry, also became licensed funeral directors at Straub's Funeral Home. Werner and Henry sold the funeral home to Scott and Gale Lien of Bowdle, effective January 1, 2007. The business is now known as Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel and the Lien's are very grateful to the Straubs for the opportunity.
