Ruben Lapp, Sr., 85, Eureka, SD, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Hosmer, SD Senior Citizens Home. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 4, 2012 at Zion American Lutheran Church, Eureka, with Pastor Ryan Gage leading the service. Burial follows at the Church Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186, Eureka, SD. Organist will be Lana Hilgemann and the congregation will sing “Abide with Me”, “Nearer, My God to Thee”, and “Rock of Ages; Cleft For Me”. Ushers will be Duane Wanner and Don Kaul.

Visitation will be at Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday and resume at the Church 10:00 AM Monday.

Ruben Adolph Lapp, son of Martha (Thurn) and Adolph Lapp, was born in Stickel TWSHP, McPherson County, 5 miles SE of Eureka on July 3, 1926. This is where he was raised and attended #2 Stickel TWSHP Rural School. Ruben served his country in the United States Army, being inducted April 24, 1945. Following his honorable discharge on December 2, 1946, he returned to the farm. He married Alice Rieger at Eureka on October 2, 1955, with Rev. Knause officiating. From 1956-1960 they lived in Hosmer where Ruben ran a pool hall. They returned to Eureka in 1960 and Ruben worked many years as a custom harvester from Oklahoma to North Dakota. He eventually moved to Prescott, AZ. living there through 2006. He then moved to the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs, SD and in 2008 moved to the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. Ruben’s pastimes included western movies and playing cards.

He is survived by one son Ruben (Carmen) Lapp, Jr. of Redfield, SD; one daughter Ruby (Jim) Wilson of Bruce, SD; one stepdaughter Allou Guthmiller of Mt. Shasta, CA; two brothers-Hilary Lapp and Donald Lapp both of Eureka; three sisters—Ruth Lapp of Eureka, LaVina Keil of Aberdeen, SD, and Marlene (Louis) Rieger of Omaha, NE; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father on August 17, 1964, his mother on September 22, 1965, his wife, one stepdaughter (Allee Guthmiller), and one brother (Rev. Marvin Lapp).

Casketbearers will be Luke Wilson of Omaha, Paul Wilson of Spearfish, SD, Aaron Lapp of Rapid City, SD, Rob Keil of Aberdeen, LeRoy Mehlhaff of Eureka, and Jim Wilson of Bruce.

Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka, is in charge of arrangements.
