Juanita's Tribute Video
Juanita Himrich, 82, Selby, SD, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM, Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church, Selby, with Pastor Dale Hamre leading the service. Burial follows at the Lutheran Section of Selby Memorial Gardens. Organist will be Nancy Kindel and the congregation will sing “Beyond the Sunset” and “AmazingGrace, how sweet the Sound”. Soloist Bill Thorstenson will sing “On Eagle’s Wings” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Usher will be Marv Kindel.
Visitation will be at Lien Funeral Chapel, Selby, from 5:00-9:00 PM Sunday and from 9:00-11:00 AM Monday. Visitation resumes 1:30 PM Monday at the Church.
Juanita Darlene Permann, daughter of Katherine (Huber) and Fred Permann, was born near Lowry, SD on June 30, 1930. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lowry Congregational Church. She attended school in Lowry and at age 15 moved with her family to Java, SD where she attended Java High School. She later attended the School of Commerce in Aberdeen, SD. She married Herbert Himrich at Java on September 12, 1949 and they settled in Selby. Juanita was a Watkins Sales Representative for 22 years, retiring December 31, 2005. She had been a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Selby and the ladies’ group for the past 62 years. She was also a Red Hatter and belonged to the Selby Jaycee-ettes. Juanita loved her family and enjoyed sharing pictures of her nine great grandchildren with friends. She also enjoyed the three B’s (Baseball, basketball, and bicycling). She grew up in a baseball family with her dad and an uncle umpiring while her brothers and cousins played. She enjoyed watching the Selby Lions boys and girls basketball teams. Juanita was commonly seen around Selby riding her bicycle as she filled out two speedometers at 10,000 miles each, riding up to eighteen miles a day. She also was a card player, belonged to a whist club, played pinochle, and later in life enjoyed playing head and foot with friends. Juanita also enjoyed going to movies, never missing a movie shown at the Star Theatre in Selby during the good old days. Dancing was also a favorite pastime as she and Herb would lease the Opera House to employ dance bands which gave her the opportunity to meet lots of people from the surrounding area.
Juanita is survived by one son Rick (Poksil) Himrich of Vancouver, WA; one daughter Candace (Andrew) Kindel of Eureka, MT; one sister Sylvia Doudican of Port Orchard, WA; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father on March 13, 1969, her mother on May 12, 1985, three brothers (Melbert, Clifford, and Allen) and two sisters (Meda Schlepp and an infant sister, Alvina).
Honorary bearers will be Juanita’s great grandchildren.
Casketbearers will be Jeremy Kindel, Kevin Kindel, and Carter Kindel all of Bismarck, ND, Jackson Himrich of Vancouver, WA, Kenny Kindel of Eureka, MT, and Roger Baumann of Selby.
Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
