Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Friday, August 3, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eureka, with Father Thomas Clement, celebrant. Burial follows at the Eureka Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186, Eureka,SD. Organist will be Paul Kolar and lector will be Bob Billotto. Offertory gift bearers will Melissa Imberi and Sarah Lehr. Mass server will be John Kolar and usher will be George Hulscher.
Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Thursday with a 7:00 PM Rosary at Lien-Straub.
Bert Imberi, son of Magdalena (Hopfinger) and Isidore Imberi, was born on December 14, 1932 at Hillsview, SD.
He was inducted into the United States Army on October 23, 1953. After being released from active military duty in 1955, he was transferred to the Army Reserve to complete eight years of service.
After finishing trade school in Watertown, SD with a degree in auto body work, he returned to work on the family farm. In 1979 he moved to Eureka and since 2005 he lived at the Healthcare Center .
He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, playing accordion and piano. He also enjoyed babysitting his many nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Eureka American Legion.
He is survived by three brothers, Jerome (Colleen) and Jerald of Eureka; Andrew of Merced, CA; two sisters, Mary Klessens of Escalon, CA and Anna Mae (Charles) Harty of Aberdeen, SD; 19 nieces and nephews; 21 great nieces and nephews and 3 great, great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father on November 10, 2003, his mother on November 20, 2009, an infant sister, Matilda, one brother, Leo, and sister-in-law, Sharlene Imberi.
Honorary bearers will be the caring staff of the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Casketbearers will be Cletus Imberi, Gervase Imberi, Ethan Erdman, and Andrew Lehr.
Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka, is in charge of arrangements.
