Frieda Ham, 94, of Roscoe, SD, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Roscoe, with Pastor Winfried Schroeder leading the service. Inurnment will be this fall at Morningside Cemetery, Roscoe. Organist will be Carol Schroeder and the congregation will sing “Just as I am”, “My hope is built on nothing Less”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Abide With Me”. Ushers will be James Beyers and Dennis Beyers.

Funeral Home visitation will be from 4:00-9:00 PM Tuesday and resumes 9:00 Am Wednesday at the Church.

Frieda Dorothea Erlenbusch, daughter of Katherine (Sauer) and Daniel Erlenbusch, was born at a farm that her parents were renting SE of Lowry, SD, on January 5, 1918. She attended country school near Lowry and also near Java, SD. She then moved with her family to Tolstoy and attended 8th grade there. Following her schooling, she stayed at home and worked on her parent’s farm. She married Berton Robert Ham January 22, 1938 at the Methodist parsonage in Selby, SD. They lived briefly at Gettysburg, SD, Selby, Groton, SD, Barnard, SD, and Donley, MN mainly engaging in farm related labor. In 1946 they purchased a farm NE of Loyalton, SD. They lived and farmed there until 1968 when they retired and moved into Roscoe. Berton died April 5, 1990. Frieda continued living in Roscoe until August 1995 when she moved to Ipswich, SD. In 2001 she returned to Roscoe where she first lived in an apartment and later moved to Westwood Assisted Living. Since May 2011 she had lived at the Bowdle Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She loved doing any kind of crafts, such as tatting and crocheting. She also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.

Frieda is survived by one daughter Myrna (Roger) Roehl of Midland, Michigan; one sister Matilda (August) Wiederrich of Ellendale, ND; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law Kathleen Ham of Bowdle; four sisters-in-law, Hulda Erlenbusch and Edna Erlenbusch both of Bowdle, Lucille Ham of Mt. Clemens, MI, and Vera Young of Waco, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father on September 12, 1967, her mother on August 31, 1953, her husband, one son (Dwayne B. Ham), five brothers (Bill, Alvin, Jacob, Fred, and Herbert), and two sisters (Cecelia Fleck and Clara Dutt).

Honorary bearers will be Leah Lutz of Indianapolis, IN, Karla Poehlman of Madison, AL, Jason Roehl of Lafayette, IN, and Daren Roehl of Midland, MI., all grandchildren of Frieda’s.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons, John Ham and Mark Ham both of Sioux Falls, SD and nephews Robert Dutt of Hoven, SD, Melvin Dutt of Howard, SD, and Don Erlenbusch and Larry Erlenbusch of Aberdeen, SD.

Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
